I. INTRODUCTION
This handbook is prepared to acquaint new students to the Vision, Mission and Goals as well as to the objectives, policies, rules and regulations of AKLAN POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE. Likewise, this manual serves as guide, reference or reminder for old students about these matters.
It is of utmost importance that students are well-informed and fully aware of the provisions governing their conduct inside and outside of the school campus.
Students must therefore read, understand and be guided by the contents of this student manual.
A BRIEF HISTORY
Aklan Polytechnic College was founded on 07 June 1987 by a group of family members led by Mrs. Lucita Policarpio Gallito of Kalibo, Aklan.
Initially, the institute offered the one year and two year vocational / technical courses, but starting June 1990, maritime courses were offered. It also established a secondary school sine 1993. Succeeding courses then followed:
June 1990 - One-year basic Merchant Marine Course
June 1991 - Two-year Certificate in Marine Transportation
- Two-year certificate in Marine Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation
- Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering
June 1993 - Naval Secondary Courses
June 1995 - Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration
- Bachelor of science in Business Administration
June 1996 - Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
June 2001 - Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
February 2003 - Caregiver Training Course
March 2003 - Bachelor of Science in Nursing
May 2014 - Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management
A few years after its founding the Maritime Training Center was established away from its main campus in Kalibo, This training center was constructed in such a manner that it looks like an ordinary ship docked beside the beach along the coastal road of Tambak, New Washington, Aklan.

The institute is presently organized into different colleges and departments. The College of Maritime Education includes the Marine Transportation Department, and Marine Engineering Department. The College of Business, Arts, & Sciences is organized to supervise the Business Courses - Customs Administration and Tourism Management courses. The College of Nursing takes care of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Aklan Polytechnic College presently offers the following curricular programs:

B.S. in Customs Administration - BSCA
B.S. in Nursing - BSN
B.S. in Tourism Management major in Cruiseship Management - BSTM
In pursuit of Quality Education and Excellence, Aklan Polytechnc College and APC Maritime Training Center worked for international accreditation of its Maritime Courses.
The College and its Maritime Training Center got certified as conforming with international standard under ISO 9002: 1994 by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
The three-year ISO certificate expired in December 2003. Year 2004, the Institute and the Maritime Training Center gets its ISO certification under ISO 9001:2000 by Net Norske Veritas (DNV), a Singapore-based Norwegian Certifying Body. Since March 2019 up to present, the ISO certification of the school is under TUV Nord Philippines, Incorporated; under ISO 9001 : 2015.
This clearly shows that Aklan Polytechnic College continue to comply with international standards set by International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Standard Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW 95).
Very soon, Aklan Polytechnic College will be a well-known and recognized institution of learning that produces globally competitive professionals and leaders of their respective disciplines who are committed to God, country and people.
The New APC tomorrow shall be modern in its approaches especially regarding academic instruction, responsive to the needs of the industry, globally competitive in terms of its products and shall be known for its leadership in academic pursuits.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
On the Logo of AKLAN POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE is emblazoned the words KNOWEDGE, DISICPLINE and SERVICE. From these words are implied the ideals to which the founders committed themselves.
It is the policy of Aklan Polytechnic College to instill knowledge, discipline, and service to its students in order to produce competent, upright, and dedicated graduates who will become highly qualified and globally competitive professionals.
